Life study

Here's a portrait from my Tuesday group. Thanks to a recent workshop I had with Carolyn Anderson my portrait paintings are becoming a bit stronger. If anybody is interested and has a chance to take her workshop she is a wonderful artist and kind person. The link to her site is on the left under links.

Danny, Ms. Anderson does wonderful work. You have captured a great feel in this one, too.

Very nice,

Jo

ooooooh! Very elegantly painted. I LOVE how you handle the edges and brushstrokes :p
How fortunate to have had the opportunity to study with Carolyn Anderson. She is one of my faves!

By the way, thank you for stopping by last Friday to view my show. It was great to finally meet you and catch up with Alex.

I'm looking forward to a plein air excursion with you both. Until then, happy painting!

Hi Jennifer
Thanks so much, I'm glad you like the painting. Been working on those edges lately.

Likewise, it was a pleasure to meet you (and Ben) and finally view your beautiful work up close. An inspiration it is, believe me. I'm also looking forward to getting out with you guys. Hopefully before the end of the year??

A very loose, dynamic and powerful portrait. I like the way how you soften the edges. One thing that bothers me is the white value of the canvas. I think it takes the attention away from the face to the background, because of the contrast. I feel the light under the eye and over the lips should be the lightest areas.

Thanks Nue. For some reason I usually leave the white of the surface untouched thus creating these bright abstract shapes. I guess it doesn't bother me much but sometimes I think I should at least glaze them over a bit. I usually just forget though. Glad you like it!
